So, lip products often have so many toxic chemicals – everything from lead, padimate O (a chemical which can be contaminated with toxins found in car exhaust), hydrogenated cotton seed oil, butylated compounds (BHA and BHT, which are linked to endocrine disruption and toxicity) and mineral oil (which is a carcinogen) can all be found in your favourite lippie. So we scoured the web for some DIY lip products which you can make in a matter of minutes. So get your girls together and get DIY-ing!
There are different bases (vaseline, beeswax, coconut oil) you can use for your lip balm/lip gloss depending on what you have on hand. If you want a good vaseline recipe, girl.Inspired has some great ones and you can add various additives to change the colour and scent. Additives can include coloured powdered make-up (like a natural powdered blush or eyeshadow), natural colours like beetroot juice, coconut oil, cocoa powder, peppermint extract and even glitter!
You can also create a beeswax lip balm rather than vaseline, which requires beeswax and sweet almond oil. The same additives as above can be integrated in for various shades of the lip balm!
Vanilla Latte Lip Balm – for those who want a bit of a caffeine hit everytime they apply their lip balm, this recipe uses cocoa butter, coffee butter and avocado oil.
Mint Chocolate Lip Gloss – for those who want some dessert as well…just make sure you don’t eat the whole thing!
Basic Lip Gloss – This one doesn’t require beeswax, so all you need is some fresh or real aloe vera gel, coconut oil, vitamin E oil and some essential oils (which are optional, for some scent).
